Advice and answers from the DevIT Team help center

These translation levels are used to transalte different dynamic elements, that were created by other applications.

There are some advanatges and disadvantages, so let's consider them closer.

  1. I level - Dynamic translation on liquid's rendering level. This type of translation allows to replace text on the level of HTML generating. It means that during page generating by liquid LangShop looks for text, that was entered in the "Dynamic Translation" section, and translates it automatically.

  2. II level - Dynamic translation with JS on DOM content loaded event. This type of translation happens when page has already loaded. With the help of JS LangShop automatically translates text.

  3. III level - Dynamic translation with JS on DOM change events. It is used if in the store you use some plugins that provide dynamic content generation (for example, sales banners, counters, chats, etc). When page has loaded and these dynamic elements appear, LangShop translates them.

DOM (document object model) - a program interface that allows programs and scripts to access the contents of HTML, XHTML, and XML documents, and to modify the content, structure, and design of such documents. HTML code is analyzed and converted by the browser in the DOM.

There are also some disadvantages of these translation levels:

  1. Using Liquid translation there are no opportunities to translate text by regular expressions. It means that {{custom}} (matching any characters in text phrase) construction not allowed here. LangShop can replace only exact match of the text, that was setted in the "Dynamic Translation" section.

  2. On the second translation level you can visually notice how text changes. It happens because LangShop analyzes the text on the page after it has loaded. It needs some time because JS check all page from the header till footer. Visually this translation will look like a "jump" or "switching" - some moment you will see text in default language and then translated text.

  3. On the third translation level you can also visually notice text changes. It depends on the amount of text in thechanged DOM elements. If you use many dynamic elements (slides, banners, counters, etc.), it can affect page productivity. If dynamic amount is low, translation process can be visually imperceptible. The more dynamically changing elements and the number of dynamic expressions that need to be checked for an entry, the more jumps can be seen
